Reviving the Door County Vintage Fun Map

Your guide to Door County: The Midsommar Girls Fun Map

There are so many places that make Door County special, and we wanted to create something that brings some of our favorites together in one place. But the idea of a Door County Fun Map actually isn't new.

Years ago, there used to be a Fun Map that helped visitors find their way around Door County and discover local businesses along the way. It was a fun, simple way to explore the peninsula before we had everything on our phones. Maps like this were part of the fun of fighting out where to go next.

This summer, Zoe and Marit had the idea to bring the Fun Map back and give it a fresh take for today’s Door County. With so many amazing local businesses throughout the peninsula, it felt like the perfect time to bring an old idea back to life.

Bringing Back a Door County Favorite

There’s something nostalgic about having a physical map in your hands while exploring Door County. Instead of searching everything on your phone or making plans ahead of time, the Fun Map encourages you to find something new and spend the day exploring. That sense of spontaneity is exactly what we wanted the map to bring back.

Throughout the time we have spent in Door County so far, we’ve had the opportunity to visit, work with, and discover so many local businesses. From coffee shops and restaurants to boutiques, wellness spots, experiences, and hidden gems, there is always something that we are recommending to visitors.

We wanted the Fun Map to bring some of those places together and make it easier for visitors and locals to experience more of what Door County has to offer. Whether you’re looking for your next coffee stop, somewhere to shop, a place to eat, or a fun activity to do, the map gives you plenty of places to choose from.

From an Idea to a map

Bringing the Fun Map to life was a collaborative process from the beginning. We worked with Whitney Nettles, a freelance designer based in Milwaukee, to bring the fun map vision to life. Whitney designed and illustrated the map, giving it a fresh look while still capturing the charm and character of Door County.

We had the opportunity to be part of the process by reaching out and connecting with local businesses throughout the peninsula. Seeing so many businesses come together on one map made the project very exciting and gave us the chance to learn about the people and places that make Door County what it is.

Your Guide to Exploring Door County

The best part about the Fun Map is that there’s no right way to use it. You can plan an entire day around different stops, keep it in your car for when you need an idea, or simply pick a place you’ve never been and go check it out. Even if you’ve been coming to Door County for years, there is always somewhere new to discover.

We hope the Fun Map encourages people to venture outside of their usual spots, try something new, and support the local businesses that make Door County so loved. More than anything, we hope the map brings back a little bit of fun that came with exploring Door County before everything was planned through a screen.

So grab a Fun Map, choose your first stop, and see where Door County takes you. We can’t wait to hear what you discover along the way!
